Can a Water Softener Really do all This?

Posted By Jenn Brockman on May 24, 2008 @ 7:51 pm

My grandma had someone come out and talk to her about a water softener system for her home. She signed up for one of those car giveaways at the mall and for her free chance at winning the show, she got to listen to an in home presentation from the company sponsoring the prize. The company was a water filtration and softener maker.

Anyway, some of what they said was pretty interesting. Apparently hard water is caused by too many minerals like calcium and stuff being left in the water after it goes though the water treatment plant. This causes all kinds of trouble over time not the least of which is causing appliances to not work well or to corrode into a state of total stoppage.

The sales rep told her that getting soft water will help with cleaning costs because it will take much less of everything to get clean. He said the dishes will dry clear both in the dishwasher and by hand. The clothing will be brighter and not seem faded over time and that it would take less shampoo to get her hair to look and feel clean.

I don’t know how much that all is true but she sure was convinced. I hope she didn’t get rooked by a sharp fast talking sales man.

My Own Medical Supply Room

Posted By Twyla on @ 3:47 pm

Is there are three people living in our house who have sleep apnea and we seem to have a room full of CPAP equipment.  It is not that I’m complaining because I know the stuff is important to the health of my family, but I would really like to have the room for something other than a medical storage facility.

Really wondered if we needed a CPAP machine for each of them, but then I decided that obviously it was important.  Since we got them my husband and children are doing much better and I’m glad that we found something that could help them out and help them to breathe a little bit easier.

My youngest child, Ally, just got a brand-new sleep apnea machine and I have seen tremendous improvements in her attitude and personality since she seems to be getting a much better sleep than she used to.  I don’t know if my children will outgrow it but I do hope, if they don’t, but they take their machines with them when they move out.

Happiness Achieved Thanks to my Daughter

Posted By Twyla on May 23, 2008 @ 7:46 pm

I have had a very rough life.  When I was 16, I found that I was pregnant and my parents all but disowned me.  At this time, my life is full of unhappy relationships and I became depressed and withdrawn, basically having no hope for the future.

When my daughter was born and I held her for the very first time I was overcome with a love that I had never felt before in my life.  I think this was the very first happy relationship that I ever had and I knew that I was not going to screw this one up.

One of the nurses at the hospital brought me a relationship book that would teach me how to do good mother-daughter relationship and this became my Bible.  To this day, my daughter is my best friend and I think that her birth brought me out of my depression and save my life.

A Ring for my Boyfriend

Posted By Jenn Brockman on @ 2:03 pm

My boyfriend and I talk about getting married all the time and he always says ‘well, I don’t see a ring on my finger yet’ indicating that I should get him a ring. The problem is that he isn’t that easy to ring shop for because he rarely wears jewelry of any sort. The man won’t even wear a watch!

I’ve been looking at Wedding bands, rings in diamond, gold and even two tone styles. I’m just not sure what to get him. He is not flashy or out going and is actually pretty quiet and avoids being the center of attention.

I did see a couple of diamond rings in gold, platinum and other finishes that I’d like to have for myself though! Really, when it comes down to it, he probably just needs a simple gold or white gold band that isn’t too thick or thin and has no real texture or embellishments to it so that it is what I’ll be shopping for.

Snow Birds and Sciatica

Posted By Twyla on May 22, 2008 @ 10:22 pm

I am looking for some information. My mother has been diagnosed with sciatica and she is very concerned about leaving her doctor here. She and dad always go to California for the winter, to escape our cold and snowy weather and mom is so concerned that she will not be able to find the proper treatment while they are away this winter.

I decided to help her out by going to a search engine and typing in sciatica Orange County and see if I could come up with any results. I got a few and I called one of them to talk about mom’s situation. The doctor was very friendly and helpful and he said that he would certainly not mind phoning mom’s doctor here and having her medical charts faxed to him.

I told mom about him and I am sure that it made her feel one hundred times better about going now and I know that it has also calmed dad’s fears for her as well.

Drunk Drivers and Court Costs

Posted By Jenn Brockman on @ 6:19 pm

Why is it that people with repeat driving offenses still qualify for auto insurance? I was hit by a three time offender and he is still driving! I was his second drunk driving victim and he went on to his third offense after being jailed and released for hitting me. Wouldn’t you think that it would be better to come up with some other option than the insurance company paying thousands or millions to go to court and pay legal fees to get out of paying for these stupid drivers?

It infuriates me that someone who would be so careless with other people’s lives by driving while under the influence of alcohol and drugs can get car insurance when he has clearly demonstrated that he is not careful or responsible in the least.

I’ve seen the commercials and heard ads on the radio for drivers who are high risk drivers and it makes me crazy to know they can still get auto insurance quotes even if they pay much higher rates than the rest of us.

Storage for Business – Where and How

Posted By Jenn Brockman on May 21, 2008 @ 5:34 pm

When it comes to commercial and warehouse storage Philadelphia is actually a pretty good place to store your stuff. In researching options, there are plenty of places with warehouse space that is large enough for a small to medium size business to keep everything on hand in one place without blowing their budget.

If you are starting a business you may be looking into your space options and wondering how to get enough room to store product yet be in a good location for retail. Well, a warehouse is a great option and several public storage facilities offer this option of larger areas than just your regular closet or garage sized storage space.

Maybe you need to expand your warehouse area because you have simply outgrown it. No problem. Often the same type of facility can help you expand and consolidate all your items into one location rather than spread out across the city.

My Love of Massage

Posted By Twyla on @ 11:06 am

I have been getting massages on a regular basis form the time I was a young teenager. I was in a car accident and had hurt my neck. At the urging of my physical therapist, I went to get a massage. After that, I was hooked. I have received a massage nearly every week since then.

Because I have had so many massages, I know the places to go and get the best ones. I think that having quality massage tables is equally as important as having a good massage therapist. I have recently found one that is absolutely amazing and I think that as long as she is doing it, I will stick with her.

The funny thing is that I am actually thankful for that accident, as having my weekly massages is my favorite part of the whole week and it is the one thing that I look forward to more than anything else.

Not According to Our Plan

Posted By Twyla on May 20, 2008 @ 8:18 pm

When our daughter was six months old, we found out that we were expecting again. This was definitely not a planned thing and I was scared to death at the thought of having two babies to take care of. The plan had been to wait until our daughter was three years old before having our second child.

As things don’t always work out how we planned, I decided that we had better make the best of the situation and prepare for another baby. Before our son was born, my friends had a baby shower for us and one of the most unique baby gifts that we got was a stroller that would both allow us to put the car seat in the back and place our daughter in the front so she could still see what was going on.

The stroller was a great thing, as I have always enjoyed getting out of the house and having kids has not slowed me down at all. It has been hard having two babies, but I still feel blessed, even though it was everything that I had not planned.

Betting on a Horses Name?

Posted By Jenn Brockman on @ 4:19 pm

About ten years ago I had the chance to go to a horse race and I got pretty excited at the thought of it. I loved watching on the telly but hadn’t ever been to a live race before. I looked for horse racing tips and everything in order to improve my knowledge before going in and blowing all my money.

I found quite a few sites that claimed to be a good horse racing tipster, but in fact, were just scams or didn’t offer a good amount of information.

When it came down to it, the real racing tips came from friends and family who had been going to the races and winning or losing for years. One such friend had made thousands by just betting on horse names, though I wouldn’t recommend you try that. He has some stroke of genius luck or something because sometimes the horse he picked by name was the worse horse by odds.
