How to lower cholesterol

Cholesterol is one of the main reasons for heart problems and many people die every year due to this disease. People may get heart diseases due to other causes as well. In order for you to prevent yourself from getting a heart disease you have to check your cholesterol levels at regular intervals.

Testing your cholesterol levels on a regular basis might be the best thing which you can do for yourself. There are more than one type of cholesterol and there is both bad and good types of cholesterol. Some cholesterol is actually good for you.

The first type of cholesterol is LDL. This is the bad type and you need to ensure that your LDL cholesterol levels are as low as possible. This cholesterol type builds up in the walls of the artery and can cause blockage to your arteries. This build up of cholesterol in you arteries causes your heart to work harder than what it is supposed to.

Heart attacks and various other heart diseases are caused by high LDL cholesterol levels. Higher LDL Cholesterol levels cause higher risks of getting a heart attack than any other type of heart disease.

The good type of Cholesterol is the other one which is HDL Cholesterol. A molecule that has proteins in its composition is what makes up this cholesterol type. Breaking down the bad type of cholesterol is one of the main reasons for making this type of cholesterol good.

You can test your cholesterol by doing a blood test. If you do not know what your cholesterol count is, it is best you visit you general practitioner and let him do a blood test. Especially men in the early forties and onwards should have their cholesterol levels checked on a regular basis.

Maybe you are so used to eating unhealthy foods that you maybe do not recognize it anymore. When you prepare your meals make sure that you know how much fat you are taking in. Look for fat free or low fat products. You can benefit a lot with looking at this in your low fat diet or cholesterol free diet

High LDL cholesterol count in your blood means that you need to do some exercises and also start eating a healthier diet. This can help you to lower your cholesterol levels. A Healthy diet should consist of a good eating plan and should exclude animal fats and definitely dairy products.
