Dell offers a wide range of Inspiron laptops and desktops, a design meets the real need of personal computers. For the business market, the Dell Latitude line design fits perfectly. Most recently introduced on September 16, 2008 into the Inspiron line is a sub-notebook, the Inspiron Mini 9. It is lightweight at 2.28 pounds and is only 1.22 inches in thickness. It features the space saving reconfiguration on the keyboard which reduces the separate function keys, the settings of F1 to F10 are secondary function on the middle line of keys including a through ; and are accessible by pressing one of the Fn keys.

The system details for the Mini 9 are slightly different for American and European purchasers, specifically differences in the RAM size available in different options, and connectivity options differ. In the American version, for instance, Bluetooth is optional, in the European version, it is standard. Both versions come with the option of either Windows XP or Ubuntu Linux operating system.

Longer running Inspiron models are all based off the Intel Santa Rosa platform. The largest Inspiron are the 1720/1721 models. These are very similar models, with the same case enclosing slightly different processing features. The 1720 includes an Intel Core 2 Duo Processor (up to 2.5 GHz) and an integrated Intel X3100 or NVIDIA GeForce Go 8400M GS/8600M GT. The 1721 has an AMD Turion (with up to 2.2 GHz) along side an ATI Radeon Xpress 1270. The 1720 and 1721 both come with a 17″ display (with resolution up to 1920×1200), as well as support for dual SATA hard drives (up to 640GB - 2 x 320GB drives), and 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM (with up to 4 GB). The 1721 also has optional hard drive configurations that for some reason are not available in the 1720. Both models come in 8 colors.

The medium sized Inspirons is the 1535. This model is also a new release, having only come out in June 2008. However, the 1535 is an upgraded version of the 1525, which was itself an improved version of the 1520/1521. The 1535 is also called the Dell Studio Laptop. Its weight and size are approximately the same as the 1525 - 5.9 lbs, 14.05″ x 10.08″ x 1.00″-1.48″. The Inspiron models 1420/1420 N were the smallest models before the release of the Mini 9. Both the 1420/1420 N models come with an Intel Core 2 Duo Processor (up to 2.4 GHz), with a 14.1″ display (with resolution up to 1440×900). Other features include SATA hard drive (that holds up to 320 GB), with 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM (that holds up to 4 GB (4 GiB) and either an integrated Intel X3100 or an NVIDIA GeForce Go 8400M GS.

The 1420N is the cheaper of the two, partly because it has the Ubuntu operating system instead of Windows XP. Both models come in 8 colors. Over all, the Dell Inspiron line is full of impressive notebooks suitable to a wide range of needs and uses. The addition of the Inspiron Mini 9 means the Inspiron line has an offering in every notebook category.
