Children are often forced to learn the piano so that they can earn a certificate. The latter offers them an opportunity to teach the instrument in the future and make money. This situation is present due to the acknowledged high earnings that piano teachers have as a career.

However, this takes away a lot of the enjoyment from playing the piano. It is especially painful for children to be forced to spend hours on something they might not enjoy. The end result is usually rote learning with the expected certificate, but little of the passion and interest required to love music for life.

The piano should not be viewed as a money making object. One should instead enjoy it with a passion for the music it enables. It helps to relieve and release stress that fills many people’s lives.

Playing the piano allows you to release frustration through the actions involved. Pedal stepping can be strangely relaxing for the body when it is feeling tight. Many have also resorted to tinkling the piano keys to keep their arms and upper body limber and free.

The end result from all these movements is the greatest relaxant of all – soothing music. Depending on what songs are played, they can either help alleviate your moods or allow you to indulge in melancholy.

Repeated playing of the same song on the piano also allows a temporary retreat into one’s internal universe. While it might not be good to escape from reality all the time, occasionally this provides solace for those who need it.

Such advantages are not considered by parents for their children. Instead, the constant nagging to practice and be disciplined might breed dislike for an instrument that can offer delightful benefits if handled the right way.

It is therefore a good idea to allow children to grow to like the piano and to enjoy playing it. Once the passion is developed, it can lead to great appreciation of both the instrument and music as a whole.
