Laptop has brought a drastic change in the computer world. The whole world is grateful to some major computer companies. There was a big deal between the two companies, Toshiba and Sony Computer. Both of them decided to shrink the size and weight of personal computer to make it in a smaller version of it. Then, any one can perform the job just by placing it on their lap. Anyone can carry their laptop in a small bag.

The basic thought behind the “Laptop” word was any one can use this minicomputer on one’s lap. Laptop is the miniature form of “desktop” and is also portable for its light weight. Desktop is put on a desk at office or home. Today, laptop is being preferred more than desktops.

A laptop is manufactured with some usual components of personal computers. No sooner had it launched in than some major computer companies such as Dell, Toshiba, Sony, HP-Compaq and others like Acer, Lenovo etc. made a huge profit.

With the advent of compact computers the concept of customization came in. Now, the user is himself equipped to customize his system, in terms of memory-size, hard-drive size, processor speed, RAM size, and much more. The user possesses the power of designing a system. This idea of customization was first brought in by ‘Dell’; the other companies just followed in. Thus began the era of customization.

In the past people could only customize as far as the components. This is still important because the computer is all about performance and performance is all about components. But today customization has actually extended even to the way the computer actually looks. Here we are talking about cosmetic appearance.

The most precious thing is in the perspective of a customer. Generally, most computers are in black or grey. But the pink laptop has got a great popularity with respect to others.

Today computers have become so useful that they not only accompany the businessmen, as it used to be in the earlier years, but also the teachers, lecturers, students, researchers working on various projects. They have been begun to be used on most commercial purposes.

But today laptops, also called “notebooks” have become multimedia centers coming with more RAM, more processor capability and more storage.
