Ideas For Homemade Halloween Crafts For Dracula’s Chef

You’d be surprised to know that a lot of homemade Halloween crafts can be found in your own kitchen. Cook up some very unique homemade Halloween crafts projects using simple kitchen materials. Learn how to make different varieties of Jack-O-Lanterns, witch kitchen jars, and Halloween treats.

A Jack-O-Lantern With a Twist

Let’s face it: everyone’s bored and tired of the old Jack-O-Lantern look. Who isn’t? Wouldn’t it be nice to create something different from the rest? But first, learn how to make the basic Jack-O-Lantern.

First, draw a circular outline around the stem of your pumpkin. Carve out the outline at an angle you have a cone shape under the lid. Twist the lid off the pumpkin. Remove pulp with a knife and scrape insides with a spoon.

The next step is simply to draw your favorite Jack-O-Lantern face or pattern on the pumpkin and cut through the outline. Place a tea candle or flashlight inside.

Now, that you know how to carve your traditional Jack-O-Lantern, it’s time to discover other options and varieties. You can use green peppers for goblins, mandarins for mini Jack-O-Lanterns, red peppers for lil’ devils, and melons for pale ghosts.

Witch Kitchen Jars

Making and displaying witch kitchen jars will add a twist to your kitchen. Your homemade Halloween crafts materials for this project could be endless.

The first step to do is to simply paint the lids with spray paint so the old labels will be covered. Popular colors are black, red, silver and green.

Next, fill the jars with virtually anything in it, such as mushrooms, rice, dried fruits, vegetable roots, and spices. Fill with water.

Once you’ve thought of a name like “Brain Stew” or “Goblin’s Eyeballs”, play around with your Word Processor’s font styles and print your label out on paper.

To create an old-fashioned, yellowed paper labels, simply brew tea bags in just-boiled water, remove, and let the tea cool. Pour tea into a spray bottle and spray on your label. Let your label dry on wax paper. Once dry, stick the label on your jar using glue. Brush on varnish if desired. Finish off by tying old-fashioned twine around the neck of the jar.

Halloween Treats

After you’ve made some homemade Halloween crafts, it’s time to cook up real edible Halloween treats! This homemade Halloween crafts project is especially fun to make for kids. All you need are spoons, candy melt and a few other materials for decoration.

Melt your candy according to instructions and simply dip each spoon into the candy melt, scoop out and lay the melt on parchment paper until the candy is cool enough to take out from the paper. Cover candy with clear cellophane and secure with a ribbon or string.

To complete your candy homemade Halloween crafts, cut out an egg carton and paint them on to create fun hats for your candies . Attach yarn to the hats for “hair” and draw on eyes and mouth on the candy plastic with markers. Use green candy melt for witches, white for ghosts, and orange for Jack-O-Lanterns.

Now that you have these few tricks up your sleeves for your homemade Halloween project, think of other things you can find in your kitchen to create something spooky and entertaining!

Tenor Size Ukuleles – What are the Advantages?

Posted By Al Wood on April 9, 2009 @ 6:33 am
by Al Wood

It used to be that everyone started their ukulele playing on a soprano ukulele. They are the traditional size of ukulele, the most available and the cheapest. But, thanks to professional players such as Jake Shimabukuro and IZ, the tenor ukulele is fast catching up as the starting point for ukulele beginners.

What is a Tenor Ukulele?

The tenor ukulele, like all ukuleles, is classified by its scale length (i.e. the distance from bridge to nut). The tenor ukulele is the largest of the high-G ukuleles – being two inches larger than the concert ukulele at 17 inches.

Along with this larger neck is a larger body. This produces a bigger, richer sound than the smaller ukuleles.

What are the advantages of a tenor?

The tenor is popular with solo ukulele players such as James Hill and Shimabukuro because it has greater space for your fingers – allowing for more highly skilled playing than a soprano.

The tenor ukulele – thanks to the larger body size – will offer you greater volume and tone. Although other factors (such as wood used and playing skill) will affect these, with everything else the same, the tenor wins out.

What’s the Downside to the Tenor?

The greater resonance of the tenor isn’t always something you want. This tone means it loses the traditional ukulele sound and doesn’t have the same punch to it.

One the flip-side of the tenor’s suitability for picking is its decreased suitability for for strumming. Not that you can’t strum a tenor. It just doesn’t feel as natural as strumming a smaller ukulele.

If you are on a tight budget, the tenor might not be the right choice for you. I can only think of one reasonable quality tenor ukulele for under $100 (the Makala). You’ll have a lot more choice at a lower price with a soprano ukulele.

How to Know if you are Progressing on the Piano

Posted By Bryan Smith on @ 6:10 am
by Bryan Smith

Sometimes it may feel as though you are practicing the piano and yet making very little progress. Don’t worry, this is very common and a lot of people that play the piano experience it. Sometimes you are getting ahead in very subtle ways that you are not even noticing.

Sometimes you are not, and have hit a flat spot in your progression that simply needs to be worked through. In either case, here are some hints to help you know if you are progressing on the piano.

If you have been playing a piece over and over again and keep making one mistake after another it may just be that you have to break that song down into smaller segments to practice. If you have already done this, then you may need to break it down even more! Some musicians have taken a difficult piece and broken it down into line by line segments. You can get it right by just taking small baby steps with the song before putting it all together.

If your fingers are just not following your directions, and seem to have a mind of their own, it may be that you need to take some time and exercise them. Even if your hands are physically in shape, taking the time to exercise them puts a communication back in place between your hands and your mind.

Take a few minutes and stretch them and work with them so that they are better able to work with you as well. You see many great pianists take the time to do simple hand motions between songs, and this is why. You need to stay in communication with your hands at all times when you play the piano.

If all else fails take a walk. Sometimes it is just a break that you really need and you need to acknowledge that and walk away from the piano. Getting your mind off of the piano may be just what you need so that the next time you go back to it you are able to play much better. If you go back and find that you are still not progressing on the piano then you’re going to have to find out what the problems really are and work on them.

You will find that one of these methods usually works. Once you are back on track you will often see that you are playing better than you were before you hit this rough spot, and have indeed made progress, but you were not able to notice it. This is how to know if you are progressing on the piano. You get through the tough times and come out better than ever.

Does the Election of Barack Obama Signal the Time for Change?

Posted By Chadwick on @ 5:50 am
by Chadwick

Now that the ballyhoo of the 2009 election and inauguration is over, it’ll be fascinating to look at whether the renewed interest in the political process will still be alive and well in the hearts of Americans. This election was historic because of President Obama’s African American lineage, but we don’t know yet whether that will be enough to keep people rallied behind President Obama and the country in general.

It would benefit all Americans if that happened, because there’s been so much struggle for so long. Take for example, the plight of veterans. Many left parts of themselves on foreign battlefields and in some cases, they didn’t get the appreciation they deserved when they came back to America. That’s why I designed some free Veterans Day clip art that pays tribute to veterans. This veterans clip art is just a small way we can all show our support. That appreciation could mean the world to veterans who have been disenfranchised.

But we need to do more than just send annual Memorial or Veterans Day greeting cards. Our appreciation for them needs to be constant. Our veterans have earned it. If we don’t support them; who will?

On the other hand, every American – not just veterans – would benefit from the unification of our country. It would be wonderful to see people saluting the American flag when on parade, because the sight of the flag moves them to express themselves. One would hope that love of country will help Americans achieve peace.

At this moment, it’s up in the air as to whether this unification will come to be. Some people are already having a bad reaction to Obama’s proposed changes. But that’s just the way American politics works. Those checks and balances actually can help keep the process balanced. That’s the way it’s supposed to work anyway! We’ll just have to keep our fingers crossed and wait.

I am a self-confessed bookworm. It is my passion for I literally grew up with books everywhere around me. My mom is a bookworm herself and I must have gotten it from her. Give me a good piece of read and you can expect me to sit undisturbed for at least the whole day. A good piece of book can really make my day. Books are part of my collections and I will continue to collect more in the years to come. I wish that my daughter will acquire that passion too. That makes 3 generations of bookworms.

Have you heard of a claim about a book festival where participants eat the books after the show? Yes, you heard it right. Welcome to The International Edible Book Festival. In here, one can showcase an edible art mimicking a book for everyone to see. These books are actually made of edible food that had been created as a fun and delicious treat. Think of art cakes. Modern bakers are making art cakes through the use of fondant and sugar paste. We can see cakes in form of books, people, a castle and even a pair of shoes!

The town of Northwood in New Hampshire is set to hold The International Edible Book Festival on April 1st of this year. Keyboard Beginners: Why is Online Keyboard Course Good for You?

Posted By Bryan Smith on @ 4:14 am
by Bryan Smith

Online keyboard courses are often created with the keyboard beginner in mind. One of the key differences between the online courses and the offline teachers is in the flexibility of the learning platform. Unlike the offline instructors who face the problem of hardware restrictions, online courses can easily accommodate software and leverage on the convenience of the internet to enhance the overall learning experience by creating ways such as learning through games.

Online keyboard courses also consistently offer good value for money and excellent after-sale service so it is actually the ideal option for keyboard beginners to start learning.

Learning to play the keyboard through having fun

Online keyboard courses often incorporate fresh learning methods that are not commonly practiced in the offline classes and these methods help to encourage a conducive learning environment. It is important to ensure a fair level of fun is constantly retained for the keyboard beginners so that interest levels can be kept high, and students absorb information much better with the effective method for learning.

Great value for money

Online keyboard courses are available at only a small fraction of the prices charged by offline instructors. Offline lessons, whether through group classes or private instructors, usually charge by the hour and these hourly rates are already more expensive than the full purchase of many credible online courses! Compare the rate of hiring a private instructor for 100 lessons to paying $40 for a whole set of online keyboard course, and it will be plain to see that online keyboard courses offer much better value for money.

Excellent after-sale service

Many beginners have misconception that buying online courses is equivalent to buying practice materials without the support that they need. Video coaching is actually one of the key components in the online keyboard courses, as well as an extensive after-sale support system to help the keyboard beginners who need consistent guidance. Submission of support ticket is a common way to get in touch with customer service agents, as well as seeking help from fellow members through forums and other interactive platforms.

The nature of the internet has provided great flexibility not just for the learning of keyboard beginners but for teaching as well. With everyone operating on extremely tight schedules these days, it is important to make sure that you get the most out of the time invested. With that in mind, the convenience of the online courses certainly has more potential to help a keyboard beginner maximize efforts in the shorter amount of time.
