SEO is about to Grow Up

Posted By Jennifer O. on December 16, 2008 @ 1:07 am

Those who have been in the industry since the late 90′s have seen huge changes in SEO. The industry has really matured. But in the grand scheme of things, if you were to plot SEO on a product life cycle chart you would see that the industry is still in its’ infancy. SEO – Introduction Stage – Starting about 1998

Companies who were around in the introduction stage often had to build product awareness and develop a market for SEO. In the early ’2000′s, many of our clients had just build their first websites. This was a significant investment for them and they thought that now that they have a website, the online sales would just flow in. Many didn’t realize that they had just invested serious coin into an over-priced business card. Because nobody could find them.

At this point, there was little consistency in the product. And as the algorithm got more complex, the SEO offering varied more. Some companies were offering to “submit to hundreds of search engines” (some still are) whilst others were offering usability, analytics and site architectural input in addition to on-page and off-page SEO.

SEO – Early Growth Stage – we’re still just at the beginning of it.

In the early growth stage, smart SEO companies are beginning to think about building their brand and to increase market share. Demand is increasing as more customers understand the benefits of “getting found”. There is some competition at this stage but because the market is broadening so much, competition is limited and there is still a huge amount of camaraderie within the industry. 10 years into it, it?s easy to assume that our industry is more mature than it actually is. We’ve only just begun.

Customer Implication

Demand has already started to increase but it is going to skyrocket. And it’s going to come from all types of business from very small customers to Enterprise type of businesses.

Up until recently, the neighborhood dry cleaner didn’t care if someone across the country found their website because they deal within a 5 km radius got very little benefit from optimizing their website. Now as local search gets much better, those local business will become much more serious about the opportunities online

It is also likely that we’ll see a lot of growth from Enterprise clients. These clients previously resisted SEO due to the complexity of working within legacy back-end systems. As technology increases and back-end systems become less expensive for more capability, we’re going to see companies replace their antiquated CMS’s with Search Engine Optimization friendly options.

Another change that this stage of the product life cycle will bring is in our relationship with the client. As SEO becomes a bigger part of the mainstream marketing mix, our customers will become more and more knowledgeable about SEO (we?re already starting to see this).

We’ll move from having a sales / consultative role to being a thought partner. Our clients will have a good understanding of what needs to be done but they’ll outsource it to us because we’re more efficient at implementing.

Competition Implication

With high growth in revenues, low barriers to entry, and no certification required, the SEO industry is prime for attracting any and all new entrants. There have always been new competitors. But the face of our competition is going to change greatly. Up until now competition has focused primarily on small start ups and web design firms who decide to add a search component. Some stick around but many are wiped out with the next major shift in the algorithm. This phase of the SEO life cycle is going to attract better capitalized, stronger competition from many sectors. These new entrants are attracted to SEO by the potential for profits not by the fit with their offering.

We are already starting to see traditional media firms seek to protect their eroding revenues by grabbing a slice of the online pie. But WalMart has shown us that future competition could be anyone. And it will be.

No all new entrants are attracted by dollar signs. There are also companies that are feeling increased pressure to offer a more well rounded package. As the integration of offline and online marketing services increases, customers are putting more pressure on agencies to handle the full scope of their marketing spend including the online component.

Although we’re already starting to see increased competition, many existing SEO companies aren’t feeling the pinch yet because demand is also increasing. One implication of increased demand coupled with new entrants to the market is the impact on supply. We’re starting to experience a shortage of experienced SEO talent SEO talent is a scarce resources. And this scared resource is not yet being renewed at a fast enough pace. Whilst some colleges are starting to offer digital media / internet marketing diploma, these grads know very little about what it takes to optimize a website.

Moreover, what they do know is limited to theory. It?s one thing to know that links are important to ranking. Its an entirely different thing to know how to effectively build links. So what?

Who cares where we are in the product life cycle?

Although we’ve already experienced a lot of growth, this growth is nothing compared to what we?re about to experience. In this next stage of the SEO life cycle, we?re going to see shifts in our clients, competition and product offering. Knowing that this is coming, will allow you to prepare. If we know that face of our competition is going to change from other small to mid sized SEO’s to large Agencies and Enterprise size companies in totally unrelated industries then we can prepare for this by determining how we’re going to differentiate ourselves from the new entrants.

And if we know that there is going to be increased pressure on skilled resources then we should be developing in house training programs now. The future is now. And it’s only just begun.

Best New Search Engine On The Net

Posted By Tyler JL Neill on December 14, 2008 @ 11:33 pm

Searching for something on the internet, is very easy to do so nowadays, with powerfull new search engines, like duoseek.com. You can find almost anything about anything these days. Just enter what it is you are searching for, hit go, and a world of information is opened to you.

You can search for anything you can imagine, from the latest film releases, to the cheapest place to buy shoes for example. You just simply enter your keyword to search for, hit the start button and the results are almost instant. Search engines make it very easy to find information on whatever it is your searching for.

Each search engine uses a Proprietary algorithm to create certain indices such that only those results which are meaningful are returned for each query. The search engines such as www.duoseek.com offers you an extensive search for the desired topic, be it images, audio, news, sports or even any dictionary search or a type of a blog. It is user friendly, easy to manage and gets quick and refined results.

Search engines have they’re own way of finding results. It is all based around search algorithms, and of course each search engine also has they’re own set of rules surrounding this. So how does a search engine find what it is your looking for? They search for information containing your keyword, and this keyword could be in the title of the webpage, or in the first few lines of the actual webpage.

When a search engine returns it results, there may be thousands or even millions of webpages that contain what it is that you were searching for. So how does a search engine know which results to show you? Yhey return results based on a webpages ranking, keywords in the title and webpages that have the keyword your searching for in the first part of the body of the page.

The methods of how a search engine deems what to place of the top of its search listings, or what it shows as being relevant, are constantly changing in some way. What we get this week for a particualr keyword search as showing at the top of the listsing, may not be top of the search listings next week. This is all part of the ever changing world in which we live in/

To Do Article Marketing or Not To Do Article Marketing

Posted By Brent Sweet on @ 9:17 pm

If you have any knowledge about your field then you can make article marketing work for you. Any person in SEO or other fields would agree that article marketing is the best way to get your site listed in the search engines. There is a large impact in search engine results, I use it all the time. If you have some extra time in a day, then I would say write an article and submit it all over the internet. Then track your results.

There are several excellent eBooks on the market for article marketing. I have learned tons of techniques for writing quality articles. Some will even tell you how to get your articles to sell for you. I don’t care so much about getting sales from my articles. I like to write the articles to inform people, and then use my resource box to help my websites. The search engines really like article marketing and they will reward the webmaster who takes the time to write articles.

The best way to get free traffic is from the search engines. Though I agree with most that article marketing will provide some free traffic, it is not the best way to do it. Article marketing, however, will increase search engine rankings which does help with free traffic. I would say that to get up in the search results for your website, article marketing is the way to go. If you are simply just trying to promote affiliate links through article marketing though, I think you are wasting your time.

I saw rewards of article marketing within 3 weeks of writing articles. I have written a lot of articles and I continue to do it. There is no way to just write one article and get the results you want, if you are persistent, however you will receive rewards. The rewards come quickly. The key is to write as many articles as you can and find an efficient way to submit them, so you can spend your time pumping out articles. Be an expert in your field, and live with passion.

The Site Rush Review – Website Flipping, The Next Gold Rush?

Posted By Lilia Wiemann on December 12, 2008 @ 9:10 pm

Alex Goad and Saj P. of “4 Tier Annihilation Method”, and “Affiliate Payload” fame, made a new product, The Site Rush, which is soon to be released. Since their previous projects were all huge successes, we can expect this one to have quite an impact again.

What is it about? Well, The Site Rush looks at a specific kind of online business: Website Flipping. That’s a fancy name for buying websites and selling them for a profit. Saj and Alex look at it as virtual real estate.

But what are the money making possibilities with website flipping? We will have a closer look at it in this article.

First of all, if you look on the web, you soon notice that a lot of websites are very badly made. The idea behind them might be nice, but the execution is just not cutting it.

Second of all, there are a lot of good websites that are not being monetized properly. They look good, they get a decent amount of visitors, but they just don’t implement enough money making angles.

The last category are websites that are good enough, that also have good monetizing built into them, but they just don’t have enough visitors to make it work. How come? Well, usually it’s a matter of poorly done SEO. If people don’t find the site, they don’t use it.

So how can we use this information to our benefit? You have to remember that the internet is not a “fixed” place. Because it is so new, there is still lots of room to manoeuvre.

Most online markets are pretty much wide open for you, me or anyone else to enter and eventually take over with a solid website and service. It’s a matter of finding that site that lacks in one of the three topics I listed above: It’s poorly made, poorly monetized or the SEO is not good. If you can buy that website and improve it, you might strike gold!

Can anyone do this? Well I really doubt it to be honest. At the moment I don’t fancy my chances if I tried my hand at it.

But with The Site Rush coming along, I might just have a good look at it. Saj P. and Alex Goad are some pretty knowledgable people. If they can really show me a “fail-proof” way of getting into the website flipping business I am more than willing to put their system to the test.

I am still not quite sure if I will buy into this. I do think I will take a very good look at their product though, because I am just way to curious about it :) And the offer could be a bit more interesting even, because there are so many websites promoting it, that offer their own The Site Rush Bonus if you get the product through their link.

3 Way Links.net Review. Does It Help Your SEO?

Posted By Chris Chandler on December 11, 2008 @ 2:41 pm

I thought when I first saw this SEO linking system known as 3WayLinks by the web guru Jon Leger… I doubted the whole thing it seems to be the real deal.

I had a friend that joined 3 way Links.net and was giving it rave reviews, so I decided to take a closer look at this “miracle solution” to linking.

Looking at it now after being on the service for almost a year now, I would say it is not “miracle service” for it cannot grab the #1 spot in a highly competitive niche market, like “insurance” but I know for a fact it has helped me to grab the top rankings in some smaller niche keyword phrases.

It has helped me get to the top of the engines for several “long tail” keyword phrases that requires less link popularity to rank for. It will take a few weeks but it is definitely worth the wait.

The way the links grow is slow, and as your network of links grow, your PR grows.

At first, I tried this on sites that I did not care much about and saw good results the rankings began to climb.

The 3waylinks.net system allows webmasters to add up to 50 domains in their link network in exchange for thier monthly fee. In the beginning I only added 3 of my own websites. I decided to do some otehr things and then months went by and noticed a doubling in traffic to those site. I am now convinced it is worth it. To this day, I am still a member.

On one of my sites on the network, I was able to acheive a top 3 ranking for a highly competitive term (which I will not reveal here..but be assured, I was extremely pleased…

A few tips I will leave with you about 3 way networks:

1. DON’T TAKE MY WORD FOR IT – If you want to test it, test it on sites that are marginally important so that you can find out for yourself if it is good.

2. CONTINUE TO LINK TRADE IN OTHER PLACES – It is definitely dangerous to leave all your linking in only one place. IF you will build a strong network of links all over the net, it will be much better. This will disguise any possible footprint…even though I have not found this to be a problem any way.

3. IT DON’T HELP PR – It didn’t help my sites with PR anyway. I find PR to be not such a huge factor in rankings anyway. While I dod keep an aye on it some, I don’t base my SEo solely around the concept like some SEO “experts”.

4. YOU NEED SOME WEBMASTER SKILLS – The install of the code could make a web newbie cringe, but it is not difficult. IF you need help, email me.

5. CHOOSE THE RIGHT KEYWORDS – I usually pick highly related keywords that are not going against huge competition in terms of sites optimizing for it AND also produces a good bit of traffic according to Google’s Adword Keyword Tool.

If you are looking to get more traffic, build rankings, and have an extra way to dominate Google, I highly recommend 3waylinks.net

Use the Network ? Attract Browsers

Posted By Robert Billings on December 10, 2008 @ 8:31 pm

Utilizing forums is a great way to draw browsers to your website. Message boards is a way for a network of people to post information, or gather information and interact with people who could be a customer. Using these message boards and forums will help get your website out there to be viewed by others.

When you post on a forum your signature line is possibly the most important aspect. This is where your put yourself out there. You may decide to include some type of graphic that displays your symbol that you use for your website. You definitely want to include an easy link to your website. Your signature line should be included in everything you post so that when people read and their interest grows they have quick and easy access to your website.

Since you are starting from the ground floor in developing relations with others you need to start with a good introduction. It will require some time for people to build their trust in you. Be careful not the come across aggressive in your advertisements. You will find your messages are deleted quickly. Post frequently and advertise your business subtly and peoples reliance in you will grow and so will the traffic to your site.

Concise and informative answers given to questions posted on the message board will present you as an expert and will draw people to you and to your site the next time they need information on that subject. You will then be developing their trust and reliance on you. A relationship is developing and a potential customer has been born.

The goal is to increase browsers to your site so you want to include links to newsletters and articles on your site. As people visit the site for additional information you expand your mailing list and give yourself more website traffic.

If you have any specials or discounts, if you have written a special article on your website or posted specific and new information, or if you are offering an online training session, advertise it by posting a link on the forum. Others will be interested in taking a look at what you have to offer.

Face to face is still a great way to advertise. You may be surprised how many recommendations you can get from your friends just talking about what you have to offer. Making friends online gives you access to a potentially global customer base. Through word of mouth your information or product can be circulated worldwide in a short time. Never underestimate the value of good online contacts. Networking is the key.

By building relationships with other forum members, offering helpful information to establish yourself as an expert, and placing links to your website, you will be able to add a steady stream of traffic to your website.

Does Article Submission work as SEO to increase rankings?

Posted By Brent Sweet on @ 8:55 am

Boy do I have a story for you. Back in November 2008, on the 20th to be exact, I began a startup business at http://www.article-submission-express.com. I offer a service for submitting articles to various directories on the internet. The articles submitted are unique to each directory. The job of this site is to sell our service to clients who would like to find a way to generate a bunch of one way links to their site, and thus increase their rankings in sites such as Google. As I write this article on December 7, 2008, I am ranked number 101 on Google for the term Article Submissions

The sole way of promoting this site was with Google Advertising, which I use a very low budget for and then submitting articles, such as this, that describe how the technique works. The idea of the article I am writing today is not to promote my site, but to describe how easy it is to use article submission to get ranked.

Today when I searched I found that there are 15,200,000 results when you go to Google and search for article submissions. Don’t you think that being at position 101 after just 17 days is absolutely incredible? I must also mention that my website, through these techniques, was ranked in the Google search engine within 3 days of being built. I would say, I am displaying incredible results!

I have studied all the gurus of SEO. I studied Aaron Wall, Brad Callen and Brad Fallon. I think these folks are the real people that know what they are doing. I started a few sites, and began experimenting with their different recommended techniques. I have to say of all the methods I have tried, article submissions, and Google Ads have brought me the most results.

I have used tools like TrafficBoosterPro, which is supposed to generate great content and feed the search engines so that your rankings increase. Well it worked, but then it killed me. I ranked 60 for one of the most competitive key words on the internet on Google. A few days later, I was not in the rankings at all. That site has never recovered, even after a complete reconstruction and white hat methods only. I also have tried reciprocal links. These may or may not work, according to most experts, google doesn’t count them, though some still say they do. I do have to say though, the ones that say they do, I don’t see reciprocals in large quantities on their sites. I have two similar sites, that are optimized for key words, but are not duplicate sites. Guess what, one has over 400 reciprocal links and the other has none. The one that has none, outranks the one that has no key words. The one that has no links, even outranks a search for the domain name of the one that has the links.

So far on my current site, http://www.article-submission-express.com, I have done two things. I bought Google ads that convert to promote my site until I can get a good organic listing. For those who don’t know Organic Listings are the ones in Google that are free, and you don’t pay per click. Then I submitted articles just like this one to as many directories as possible with a link back like you see below in my resource box.

In all the studies I did with SEO, this is the most success I have ever had, and boy am I excited. I have used press releases as of yet, because they are too large of an investment for me at this point. I also with this particular website did not use link building programs or link exchange services. I haven’t traded any links, and I don’t even provide code to link to my website. I also have not ventured into adding links on a social networking site which would probably increase my rankings further. The website is a controlled experiment. I have to eliminate all variables and use certain techniques to test them against others. I am going to continue to do what I am doing and monitor Google. The best part of the whole bit is I am not at 101 in the rankings so it makes it easy to see which direction I go. Hopefully the next article you read will give you more information on where I am after I submit this article.

As always I wish you all the best of look in your search engine optimization efforts. If you are at all interested in having articles submitted, you can find submissions services like mine or my competitors, or you can do it manually. My website, as I said earlier, offers this service and there is a link in the resource box. I do want you to understand and take away from this article, that article submission and writing works, I am not trying to promote my service, but the method in which I optimize my website.
