Car Insurance For Teens

Posted By Thomas P. Evans on March 27, 2009 @ 3:32 am
by Thomas P. Evans

Teenage drivers are aggressive and this is the reason why they are likely to be in an accident. Because of this risk, insurance providers offer higher premium. With auto insurance, parents will feel both assured and at the same time burdensome because of the high premium they are paying.

One of the strategies used by teens to find affordable car insurance for teens is by turning to their parent’s policy because of the “multi-car” discounts where the price is offset by the driver who has more driving experience. However, this may not always be the best way to go for an affordable car insurance for teens. Car insurance providers may assign the highest risk driver to the highest risk vehicle, even the former doesn’t drive the latter, to determine the rates. This will affect other vehicle premiums and may not be considered affordable car insurance. Parents can ask for a free quote from their car insurance provider for the additional driver.

Students with good grades are likely to be given discounts by auto insurance companies. This privilege however only applies to drivers whose age is 25 or below.

Sporty cars attracts young drivers especially males. But this type of car can be one of the reasons for high car insurance premium. Fast cars usually get into accidents because these can be driven in ways that can result in car crash and other accidents. Meanwhile, expensive cars can also cost you high car insurance premium. Repairs and auto parts can be costly for car insurance providers. The labor that is needed when repairing these cars is also expensive. So if you have an old car that is still in good condition, stick with it. If you need to buy a new car, check the cylinders. Cars with six cylinders are likely to have cheaper car insurance premium than those with eight but higher than those with four.

Lastly, shop and compare the rates of different companies. This allows you to find the relatively affordable young drivers car insurance available.

Short term car insurance has become a popular type of insurance policy for many car owners. Short term car insurance is a type of insurance coverage that lasts from 1 day to 28 days. This type of insurance is usually bought by car owners who borrowed a car while moving to another town or residence. It is also bought by those who are test driving a vehicle. Those who are going on a holiday may also need to buy short term car insurance.

Typically, short term motor insurance provides comprehensive car insurance to vehicle owners.

Short term insurance is very practical for those who need a car on a short term basis. Car owners don’t have to buy a long term car insurance policy especially if the vehicle that they are using is being used on a short term basis. If you are borrowing a car for a holiday, you can purchase a short term car insurance. You can also purchase a short term car insurance if you borrow a car for transportation of furniture or moving into another house.

A typical short term auto insurance is comprehensive in coverage. You need not worry about all sorts of accidents or risks that your vehicle may face. You will certainly have peace of mind if you purchase a short term car insurance.

What makes a short term car insurance very ideal for many car owners is that it can be arranged easily. In fact, a short term car insurance may be conveniently sourced from the Internet. A car owner can simply log on to a short term car insurance website, purchase a policy, and print a document which certifies that he now has short term car insurance.

Environmental Benefits of Auto Salvage

Posted By Amy Nutt on @ 3:26 am

With popular advertisements, celebrity endorsements and major community programs for recycling in place it seems almost everyone is doing what they can in terms of the three R’s (reducing, reusing and recycling). People are separating their recyclable materials from their garbage, composting, unplugging unused appliances and buying and using more earth friendly forms of lighting – but there is one avenue that a lot of people aren’t yet traveling that could do wonders for the environment.

Auto wreckers, junk yards and auto salvage yards all serve pretty much the same purpose – they seem to be the final resting place for automobiles that are no longer wholly functional. There are several reasons that a car may end up in a junk yard or auto wrecker – irreparable body damage, a seized engine, cracked suspension or perhaps all of the above, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that there is nothing that is useable left within the broken shell.

You know, as an automobile owner, that things go wrong with cars and that the repairs can be costly – by recycling used auto parts you can help the environment by reusing things that would have most likely ended up going to a landfill, and you can keep some of your hard earned cash in your pocket because a used auto part from a junkyard will most certainly be less expensive than a new part form the factory. The auto parts that would have ended up in the landfill are not biodegradable, they would be there forever causing a burden on future generations that will already have more than enough to deal with from problems handed down to them from previous generations. Reusing what cannot be broken down by nature will help to leave open that space that would have been otherwise occupied in some already overflowing landfill. If you can reuse an item from an old car that isn’t currently capable of being broken done and recycled, if that part lasts long enough in your vehicle there’s a chance that new technology will develop in the intermittent that will allow for at least some extracting of materials from the part helping to reduce the future environmental burden even further.

Though no studies as of yet have formally been completed, there are some currently underway to see if the mass recycling of used auto parts from unusable vehicles into ones in need of repair could lessen the carbon footprint left by auto parts manufacturers. It’s presumed that the machinery and factories used to manufacture new auto parts (even ones that are as “green” as possible) give off some form of pollutants and use up a reasonable amount of natural resources to complete the parts production. Reusing used car parts would conceivably create nothing harmful to the environment and in fact produce only positive benefits.

When a new car is “totaled” in an accident (when the cost of repair would amount to more than the car is worth in terms of book value), there could conceivably be dozens of parts in perfect working order that get hauled away to the auto salvage yard. These parts may be brand new, or only have a few thousand miles on them. If there were more advertisement for the use of used car parts and used tires by mechanics for repair and methods were developed to breakdown what was left of the autos in a recycling plant to be reused in another method, we could drastically reduce the size of the carbon footprint we bestow upon future generations.

If you had never considered yourself to be a part of the movement for a greener style of life, this is one method of helping the environment that could win you over. Making the choice to install used car parts in your vehicle for repair requires almost no extra effort on your part to make the repair and it could save you a substantial amount of money on the repair bill – perfectly functioning used car parts from a junk yard cost a fraction of what brand new factory parts do.

Why Biodiesel is a Good Alternative Fuel

Posted By Joseph Then on March 15, 2009 @ 4:01 am
by Joseph Then

There has been a lot of attention on alternatives to gasoline. With the prices rising continuously people are starting to worry how they will ever afford to fill their tank. Besides that, the rising gas prices are making the price of everything else go up. It is truly a situation that needs a better solution.

Biodiesel has been getting a lot of attention because it is one of the most reliable sources of alternative fuel. Many companies have started turning to biodiesel to fuel their vehicles so they can save money and pass that savings to consumers.

There are many things about biodiesel that make it a good alternative fuel. Here is an outline of why biodiesel is a good choice:

Ease of Use

The best part of using biodiesel is that you do not need to spend money altering your vehicle to use biodiesel. If you use diesel to run your engine, then using biodiesel instead will not be a problem.

The only problem when you are doing the switch is that you may encounter clogged filters for the first month but you do not need to worry as this problem is very easy to fix.

It Is Easy To Make

Believe it or not, you can make biodiesel at the comfort of your own home! It can be made by anyone and the ingredients used can be bought from the grocery store. All you need next are old bottles to mix and store them.

Biodiesel dos not contain harmful bi-product. The only bi- product, gasoline is used to make soap too!

Biodiesel Is Safe

Biodiesel is very safe. It is safe foe humans, animals and the Earth too! It is safe because biodiesel is non-toxic and burns cleanly thus producing less pollution.

You do not need to worry about your house catching fire if you make biodiesel at home because it is not going to catch fire and it does not even have the risk of an causing an explosion.

They All Come From Renewable Materials

Oil is not renewable therefore diesel may run out one day, unlike biodiesel. Biodiesel is made from renewable sources. Therefore, it will never run out.

Your next step? Take all that you have learnt in this article and start saving money! Biodiesel makes a wonderful choice instead of the regular priced fuel. You should try it!

Cheap Vehicle Insurance For Old Drivers

Being an old driver has some disadvantages. For one, you might find it quite difficult to get lower car insurance rates for yourself. Just like teen drivers, being an old driver is considered as someone who is riskier to be insured for auto insurance companies. Although they have the road experience that teen drivers do not have, it’s a known fact that as we aged, our motor reflexes and perception also decreases thus these greatly affect the way we drive. In fact, according to a study conducted by Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, among the age group of all drivers, older drivers got the second highest rate of deadly crashes next to teen drivers.

Now, the next question is how do get cheaper vehicle insurance rates for someone who is statistically considered as ‘riskier” to be insured? One great way is to get auto insurance online. Since the Internet offer so much for choices for vehicle insurance quotes, you can just visit those websites then possibly get the cheapest rate that you can find.

Another thing that you can consider is to take advantage of the low driving miles, if it’s being offered by the auto insurance company. Since old drivers do not use their vehicles that often as compared when they are younger, their driving miles also decreases. Certain vehicle insurance companies offer this kind of discount. For some, if you drive less than 1000 miles in a year you can avail of this discount. You just have to ask for its availability.

Also, don’t forget to ask about getting a discount for enrolling in a driver’s education program. There are some states that mandate a minimum discount of 5% for senior drivers like in New Jersey.

You can ask your auto insurance agent if this discount is being offered in your area.

Biodiesel and biofules production

Posted By Ross Taylor on March 9, 2009 @ 3:11 am
by Barbara Waters

When we convert organic matter into fuel, it is called biofuels. This is just one of many alternatives we can in an effort to replace our dwindling fossil fuels which we depend on so much. The biofuels umbrella includes under its aegis ethanol and derivatives of plants such as sugar cane, as well as vegetable and corn oils. But ethanol products are not the only ones developed for gasoline purposes. The International Energy Agency (IEA) tells us that ethanol could comprise up to 10 percent of the world’s usable gasoline by 2025, and up to 30 percent by 2050 but today, the percentage figure is only two percent.

However, we have a long way to go to refine and make economic and practical these biofuels that we are researching and a study by Oregon State University proves this. So far, what we have made are biofuels that are as energy efficient as gasoline made from petroleum. To measure energy efficiency, we need to know the quantity of the required utilised energy that we can gain from a certain amount of input energy. Despite our best efforts, fuel sources always require a greater input than they are able to supply back.

Despite our best efforts, fuel sources always require a greater input than they are able to supply back. We measure it like this: the input energy is the effort required to achieve the output energy we are looking for. The OSU study found corn-derived ethanol to be only 20% energy efficient (gasoline made from petroleum is 75% energy efficient). On the brighter side, the study reported that cellulose-derived ethanol weighed up against the extremely efficient nuclear energy showed an even better efficiency of about 85%.

The Chicago Stock Exchange has a grain futures market which is starting to “steal” investment activity away from the oil futures in NY, as investors are definitely expecting better profitability to start coming from biofuels. Indeed, it is predicted by a consensus of analysts that these fuels will be supplying seven percent of the entire world’s transportation fuels by the year 2030. As what a confident energy markets analyst had said: the growth in demand for diesel and gasoline may slow down significantly if the government would monetarily sustain firms that are distributing biofuels and continuously promote the use of eco-friendly fuel.

Due to the increasing popularity of biofuels, a number of nations are starting to commit themselves towards its production. It can annually generate about three and a half billion gallons of ethanol. Despite their love of gasoline, the United States is the second largest producer of biofuels. The European Union’s biodiesel production capacity is now in excess of four million (British) tonnes. Most of this biodiesel fuel is derived from rapeseed oil with some from soybean oil and a little from palm oil which combined make up the remaining twenty percent.

Tips On What to Do If Your Car Spins Or Slides

Posted By David Halbert on March 3, 2009 @ 3:44 am
by David Halbert

One of the most useful creations of modern day world is the car. It has made our lives far easier by reducing the time required to travel from one place to another. Without these cars one would have to spend numerous days to be able to reach a destination which could be reached in a few hours with the help of these cars.

But like all inventions of science, the cars also have some draw backs. Where speed has reduced the time required to move about from one place to the other, it has also increased the risk of high speed lethal accidents. The high speed of the car makes it so unsafe for the passengers and others that a lot of individuals die as a result of car accidents every day.

Car accidents could be the result of more than one reason. The most important and well-known of these reasons are over speeding and driving in dangerous conditions like snowfall, rainfall, or smog. Rain and snow significantly reduce the road grip of the tyres of car, and therefore the car has a higher possibility of spinning or sliding at sharp turns.

The momentum of the car makes it worse because it becomes harder to control the car. The greater the momentum of the car, the harder it would be to manage in case it goes out of control of the driver. Irrespective of the fact how careful you might be, there is always a possibility that you ought to face situations where every action means a lot. There is a thin line between life and death in these situations, and one has to imagine really fast to avoid an accident and get the car back under control.

In case you come across a situation where the car goes out of control in rainy or snowy conditions, then there are a number of things you can do to attempt and get back the control over the car. Firstly, you should always attempt to keep the speed under controllable limits while driving under such hazardous conditions. Higher speed means more momentum, and therefore it would be harder to manage the car if it goes out of control.

Secondly, if the car goes out of control then instantly release the accelerator. This would be helpful in reducing the speed of the car due to acceleration, and therefore the momentum would reduce bringing the car under controllable conditions in majority of the cases. Though, you should keep in mind never to apply brakes as a first option as stopping the tyres of the car all of a sudden would make it spin more therefore taking the car beyond control.

Most people make the mistake of applying the brakes immediately if the car goes out of control. This is something one should avoid at all times. If you are driving a car with manual transmissions, then it would be a good idea to reduce and control the speed of the car with the help of gears. You should try and lower the gear of the car and reduce speed by this method.

On the other hand, most recent cars have built-in automatic transmission, and thus it is not likely to manage the speed with gears. Hence, you should reduce the speed by smoothly tapping on the brake paddles. Never apply full force to the brake paddles as it would jam the tyres and make them slip even more thus worsening the situation. These days many modern cars are fitted with computers which are helpful in bringing the car under control by reducing speed and gently applying brakes.

by David Halbert

Looking after the performance and maintenance of your car is essential to make sure it works properly and lasts longer. Many people do not give much attention to the maintenance of their car. They do not check air filter, brakes, or tyre pressure.

In point of fact, inspecting the tyre pressure is one of the most left out features of car maintenance. People in general believe that there is no problem with the tyres. They carry on using their car unless the tyre goes flat eventually!

What one needs to know is that investigating type pressure does not only give added life to your tyres, but also makes the gas mileage better. It also gives additional life to the brakes and suspension system. Checking tyre pressure is also vital from security viewpoint. According to experts, you ought to see our tyre pressures on periodically. Likewise, you should not forget to confirm your tyre pressure, mainly when you have to set out for long drives.

In order to check the tyre pressure properly, you need to have a tyre pressure gauge. Just assessing the pressure with your hands will not be good enough. Many people think if the tyre is not flat, there cannot be a problem with the pressure of the tyres. You may not notice, but it can be over or under inflate.

You can use some tips on it from your car manual and identify the suggested tyre pressure fit for your vehicle. Apart from checking the four tyres of your car, also see the pressure of the unused one. Many people forget checking the welfare of the standby tyre. They do not ensure its condition even in years, and get to know it is not okay when they want to make use of it some awful day!

While you use a tyre pressure gauge, you can judge how much pressure it has using the pointer. Some of the well advanced and costly pressure gauges are digital. They are as simple to use as the normal ones. If you find out your tyre is under inflated, you can use air pump that are accessible at nearly all pumps.

Once you fill your tyre for a second time, check once again to ensure the pressure is right. Do not overlook to put the caps back after you are done. If the pressure in the tyres is excessively great, allow some air to be on the loose using a key or a screwdriver. You can insert these into the release valve and let some air out. Excessive pressure in the tyres also lessons their life. It can also turn out to be a danger to your wellbeing.

In addition to checking the pressure of the tyres, you also require to mull over the form of the tyres. Because it is the tyres of the car which maintain the car on the way, bubbles or fractures on them may bear out to be a menace to you. Check the situation of all the tyres every occasionally.
